The Clean Air Act was passed in 1969 in an attempt to clean up the air in the United States. Though considered progressive at the time, the Clean Air Act has proven insufficient and was thus amended in 1990 with sweeping revisions in an attempt to curb three major threats to the nation's environment and to the health of millions of Americans.
