Gurnee, Ill.— To integrate temperature and machine control, Danaher Controls released Feb. 1 its MLC9000 bus-based temperature controller that interfaces with PLCs or human-machine interfaces (HMI). The company says its modular, DIN rail-mounted innovation eliminates the need for integrated PID blocks, which degrade PLC performance, and multiple, single-loop, panel-mount controllers, which waste panel space and prevent centralized control. Delivering machine control and temperature control with one centralized interface, MLC9000 will be marketed under Danaher Controls’ Dynapar, Partlow, and West brand names.

Open buses used

Danaher says it’s especially significant that MLC9000 interfaces with the user-chosen HMI either directly or via PLC registers. It communicates directly to the PLC via open buses, including DeviceNet, Profibus, and Modbus, or through a serial port.

Eliminating the PID block removes the burden of analog temperature control from the PLC, which allows quick single-loop performance levels with advanced features. For example, RaPID fuzzy logic offers fast reaction to process disturbances, while maintaining constant precision control, while EasyTune offers an adaptive tuning algorithm for autotuning the PID loop, which eliminates the need for costly software. MLC9000’s other features include deterministic 100 ms sample time, built-in heater break alarms, the ability to hot swap single loops, and a building block approach to adding more loops, which means users no longer have to buy four or eight loops at a time.
