Various software tools can help develop functional specifications that can increase probability of success in automation and control implementations. ControlDraw Ltd. now offers a free version of its software, offering basic functions for specification and design of S88 models, useful beyond batch applications for process automation.
Free version of ControlDraw3 reportedly includes ability to:
Draw process flow diagrams with state matrices for unit and equipment modules, with animation;
Draw logic diagrams and then run them, watching the logic signals flow through the diagram.
Draw control loop function block diagrams (SAMA loops) and run them, simulating processes and their PID control loops;
Draw and simulate Grafcet/SFC charts, state transition diagrams more;
Build small hierarchical S88-oriented models;
Build state matrices that define the possible states of a collection of objects in one matrix.
