Global Display Solutions has filed a patent application for its optically enhanced large TFT display. Readable in full sunlight, the display reportedly has extremely high resolution and is designed to operate 24-hr/day. It is intended for outdoor applications.
The European patent request, registered May 11, 2005, is called: “Improved display device for indoor and outdoor applications.” The application is based on certain aspects of the display’s design, including the panel and monitor cooling system, mechanical chassis system, and optical improvement system.
Display uses optimal contrast values, which are said to overcome previous temperature and reliability limitations experienced by outdoor displays. Its casing meets IP65 standards to provide protection from dust and low-pressure water. Graphics operate at 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution. GDS designs and manufactures industrial displays for markets worldwide.
