Phoenix, AZ— Honeywell Process Solutions has introduced a new automation solution for liquid natural gas (LNG) carriers, based on its Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS), which will allow users to collect information to reduce costs and enhance operator effectiveness.
The Experion-based solution will be used onboard LNG vessels to centralize the monitoring control functions of engine room machinery, boilers, cargo and ballast systems. Experion PKS has already completed type-approval testing, a requirement for all automation solutions onboard vessels. Type-approval certificates from major ship classification societies will soon validate the technology for application on LNG and other carriers worldwide.
‘We’re optimistic that our technology will play an integral role in the growing LNG market,’ says Jack Bolick, Honeywell Process Solutions’ president. ‘The new solution will give our customers the ability to use the latest technology for the entire LNG supply chain, from plant to carrier to terminal.’
Honeywell’s work with LNG dates back to the 1980s, when it introduced the TDC2000. Presently, Honeywell automation solutions are installed on more than 50 LNG carriers. The new solution builds upon Honeywell’s extensive experience with LNG to incorporate the latest advances in technology while continuing the tradition of providing robust and secure control for critical applications, resulting in the opportunity for shipyards and ship-owners to increase productivity and operator effectiveness.
