The first two 45-minute sessions are introductions to two powerful programming capabilities for standard Ethernet networks: multicast and publish-subscribe. There are no commercial interruptions.
Introduction to multicast
Many real-time applications that use Ethernet can benefit tremendously from the protocol’s multicast capabilities, which means that one datagram can be received by many nodes on the local network. This seminar explains how Ethernet multicast can be used in practice on local networks. It covers the hardware and software support needed for multicast sending and receiving; mapping of UDP/IP multicast to Ethernet multicast; and problems related to switching/routing multicast (IGMP, GMRP).
