Munich, Germany—Siemens AG reports that it's planning to replace Heinrich von Pierer as president and CEO with Klaus Kleinfeld, and appoint Pierer as the company’s supervisory board chairman, replacing Karl-Hermann Baumann, who is retiring.
Munich, Germany— Siemens AG reports that it has begun a “generation change” in its top management. The firm plans to replace Heinrich von Pierer as president and CEO with Klaus Kleinfeld, and appoint Pierer as the company’s supervisory board chairman, replacing Karl-Hermann Baumann, who is retiring. These changes will be voted on at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting in January 2005. Kleinfeld has been in charge of Siemens’ I&C groups.
This management shift is also requiring the board to vote July 28 on extending Pierer’s managing board contract from Sept. 30, 2004, until Jan. 27, 2005. The board will also likely vote to appoint Kleinfeld as deputy chairman of Siemens’ managing board of Siemens AG, effective Aug. 1, 2004. When Pierer moves to the supervisory board in January, then Kleinfeld would take over as managing board chairman, president, and CEO.
In addition, Thomas Ganswindt, currently president of Siemens’ IC networks division, and Rudi Lamprecht, president of the firm’s IC mobile division, will be appointed full members of Siemens’ managing board, and elected to its corporate executive committee, effective Oct. 1, 2004. Ganswindt will then take over responsibility for the I&C groups from Kleinfeld, while Lamprecht will assume responsibility for Africa, the Middle East and the CIS division. Lamprecht will also have special responsibility for the firm’s Osram program, and for joint ventures, including Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte and Fujitsu Siemens Computers.
In related news, the company’s IC Mobile and IC Networks groups are scheduled to merge in October 2004, and will be headed by Lothar Pauly. He is presently a member of IC Mobile’s group executive management structure.
