Mike Cooney, 38
Project Manager; Leidos, Walled Lake, Mich.
BS Engineering Technology, Michigan Technological University

Cooney was hired at Leidos immediately following his graduation from Michigan Technological University. He started as a controls engineer specializing in real-time control and monitoring of facility automation systems. A good portion of his career has been composed of projects for manufacturing clients, but when nonmanufacturing projects arose, Cooney was always up for the challenge to step out of his comfort zone. Cooney worked on the controls integration portion of a $115-million project for NASA, which included the largest acoustic chamber and shaker table in the world. Cooney leverages his 20 years of engineering experience to deliver successful projects, gaining him the trust, confidence, and respect of his clients. Cooney successfully led the controls integrations of a full-scale, biodiesel plant with complete tank farm process controls. Outside of work, Cooney enjoys brewing his own beer, going off-roading with colleagues, and spending time with family and friends.
