Application note: Deep non-metallic enclosure covers mobile safety system

Rigsmart Systems Inc . develops safety products for the oil service rig industry, including a rig safety and data acquisition system used on service and workover rigs. The system allows the driller to input data on the well, including depth, tubing, casing and rod data, and surface pressure. Measurements on load, line payout, ram position, and other rig conditions feed into a Stahlin ‘s FatboyJ 12x10x10 SSH model enclosure, which houses and protects the mobile pneumatic controls and other control components, including a 9.5-in. vertical air filter.

Specifications required the enclosure had to be non-metallic and rated NEMA 4X to meet Canadian Class I / Division I Rig Restrictions standard, ensuring the electrical safety of rig’s crew. The enclosure has 11 standard sizes and is UL/CSA rated to Type 12, 3R, and 4X as well as IEC 60529 IP66 for durable protection against extreme environmental conditions. Applications for the enclosure include petrochemical plants, water treatment facilities, battery containment, food, and beverage. For easier system integration, Stahlin’s ModRight program can customize enclosures to accommodate custom windows, color, cutouts, holes, and silkscreening.
