Arup promotes five to principal

Arup promoted John Hurt, PE; Brian Stacy, IALD, LEED AP; Trent Lethco, AICP; Hillary Lobo, PE; and Tateo Nakajima to principal.

Arup has announced that it has promoted five individuals to principal for the New York office. John Hurt, PE, CEng, tunneling; Brian Stacy, IALD, LEED AP, lighting; Trent Lethco, AICP, transportation planning; Hillary Lobo, PE, electrical; and Tateo Nakajima, acoustics and performing arts.

Jon Hurt, PE, C Eng, leads the tunnel design practice for Arup and is known for his design management and tunnel design on major projects, from concept through to construction. Jon has a master’s degree in engineering from Cambridge University, UK and is a professional engineer in five states. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Underground Construction Association, the Institution of Civil Engineers, and the British Tunneling Society. Jon chairs Arup’s philanthropic program in the Americas Region.

Brian Stacy, IALD, LEED AP, leads Arup’s lighting group in the Americas. Brian has more than 20 years of experience in lighting design. His work has focused around design driven solutions for a range of exterior and interior environments in the museum, performance, art, civic, transportation and corporate sectors. Brian holds a BFA in Lighting Design from DePaul University in Chicago and has achieved professional membership status in the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). Brian is also a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES).

Trent Lethco, AICP, leads Arup’s transportation planning group in New York. His primary focus is on effectively linking transportation and land use policy to achieve fiscal, environmental, and social sustainability. Trent holds a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a bachelor’s degree in American History from University of California, Berkeley. He is on the board of directors for the Regional Plan Association in New York, and is a member of the Transportation Research Board’s committee on transportation issues in major U.S. cities.

Hillary Lobo, PE, is an electrical engineer in Arup’s New York office with a broad range of design, analysis and construction experience in corporate, high-rise, telecom, residential, commercial, and institutional buildings. Hillary holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Bombay University, India, and is a licensed professional engineer in New York. He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE).

Tateo Nakajima is a recognized leader in the design and planning of performing arts venues, ranging from concert halls and opera houses to pop entertainment venues in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. He graduated from Upper Canada College and the Royal Conservatory of Music, and has led orchestras and opera companies in France, Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, and Denmark.
