Company designs new Ethernet bridge
B+B Electronics has designed a Ethernet bridge called Ghostbridge, which is designed to link two devices/network with no setup required.
B+B Electronics has released a new Ethernet bridge called Ghostbridge. With a line-of-sight range of up to 15km, the 5 GHz GhostBridge creates a transparent, secure, high-speed (up to 150Mbps) point-to-point link between two remote devices or networks, eliminating up to 15km (about 9 miles) of expensive and damage-prone wiring. Sold in pre-configured pairs, the GhostBridge requires no further configuration or software setup; simply mount them, plug them into the network using the included PoE adapters, and then use the LED indicators to align them.
GhostBridge features an 80-degree, 15dBi sector antenna integrated into the housing, and a 5 GHz radio built from 802.11n 2×2 MIMO technology, for long-range (up to 15km) connectivity between remote stations and a central office. Or, users can bridge two networks or hard-to-reach nodes together. A PoE pass-through Ethernet port also allows users to connect remote devices (IP camera, or other) to a LAN. The operating frequency is 5470 – 5825 GHz, and the unit consumes 8 watts maximum power.
Pre-configured with WPA2, 128-bit security, the GhostBridge provides secure, point-to-point data transmission. Users can also configure it to other standards. The two-unit bridge operates over a wide temperature range (-30 to + 80 degrees Centigrade) and outdoor-rated, UV-stabilized enclosures protect the hardware. A pole mount is part of the molded outdoor enclosure, and there’s an optional wall mount kit sold separately. Each unit measures 28 x 8.0 x 6.0 cm including the pole-mount brackets.
The $599 package contains two GhostBridge wireless Ethernet bridges (a base station and a node), two AC PoE adapters with power cords, two DC PoE adapters with barrel plug adapters, four heavy-duty cable ties and a quick-start guide. The optional GMT25 swivel wall-mount bracket is available for $19.
