The two-day technical conference presented during National Manufacturing Week provides professional and development opportunities that give insights into the technologies and solutions of the 21st century.

To facilitate the educational effort, the program is divided into six tracks for different industry sectors. The tracks are Plant Engineering, Design Engineering, Design for Manufacturing, Automation & Control, E-Tooling for Manufacturing, and E-Business for Manufacturers.

In addition, three general keynote sessions will be available free of charge to all Show attendees. On Monday, March 5, 8:00 - 9:00 a.m., Steve Ward, General Manager, Global Industrial Sector, IBM Corp., will discuss how the accelerating worldwide impact of e-business and the new network economy require manufacturing companies to continually transform themselves. His presentation is entitled "Global Customer Partnerships in the Industrial Sector."

John Stossel, ABC news correspondent, headlines the Tuesday session. His presentation on "Freedom and Its Enemies" will look at liberty, American heroes, fear of technology, and safety regulations.

On Wednesday, March 7, Joseph Clayton, President and CEO, Global Crossing, North America, will discuss "Doing Business in the New E-conomy." The speaker will explore the latest figures on the expected growth of e-commerce, and discuss how the entire business world is heading towards a future of operating on the internet.

Here are brief descriptions of the sessions scheduled for the Plant Engineering track.

Monday, March 5

9:15-10:30 a.m. Title: CMMS Data/Information Extraction Technical Needs for the Functional Manager

Speaker: Christopher N. Winston, Operations Manager, HSB Reliability Technologies

Abstract: This session will review the key areas of CMMS that go on "behind the screens," and the use of a desktop database and report writer to enhance the functional system administrator's ability to support the CMMS installation and deliver touted benefits.

10:45 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Title: Controlling Compressed Air Systems-Simple to State-of-the-Art

Speaker: Scott Foss, President, Plant Air Technologies, Inc.

Abstract: Typical problems and solutions for situations such as fluctuating pressure, poor air quality, high operating cost, and lack of reliability will be presented.

1:30-2:45 p.m. Title: The Fine Art of Negotiating Return-to-Work Solutions

Speaker: Cathy Johnson , President, HJH Group; and Jeffrey Kreiger , President, Integrated Management Services, Inc.

Abstract: This session discusses management strategies for worker's compensation claim resolution. It will pro-vide information about negotiation and return to work options in new ways. It will also offer innovative solutions to address more difficult return to work challenges.

3:00-4:15 p.m. Title: Zero Maintenance Downtime: How to Get There

Speaker: M.M. Williamsen, Operations Director, Primex Technologies, Inc.

Abstract: This session explains how to analyze and eliminate organization and business dysfunctions. Solutions on how to resolve people, equipment, systems, and process issues will be presented.

Tuesday, March 6

9:15-10:30 a.m. Title : The Integration of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing

Speaker: Bonnie Smith, Director of Lean Sigma, TBM Institute

Abstract: During this highly interactive workshop, participants will be involved in a simulation that drives home the benefits of linking lean manufacturing and six sigma. It will explain the advantages of both and how the two programs are integrated together to form a powerful strategy.

10:45 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Title: Recognizing and Overcoming the Challenges of Maintenance Improvements

Speaker: Steve Welch, Vice President, Advanced Technology Services, Inc.

Abstract: Attendees will learn how to recognize, analyze, and overcome the fundamental challenges of production maintenance. This presentation will discuss systematic, strategic business approaches to drive successful maintenance.

1:30-2:45 p.m. Title: Thermal Spray CoatingTechnology for Today's Engineer

Speakers: William Lenling,Vice President, and Daryl Crawmer, Director of Technology, Thermal Spray Technologies, Inc.

Abstract: This session will cover the basic thermal spray processes commercially available today. Advantages and disadvantages of each process will be described.

3:00-4:15 p.m. Title: Impact of Quality and Short Interval Scheduling on Processes

Speakers: Mary D. Jones, Senior Manager, Deloitte & Touche LLP; and Lawrence Kagemann, Vice President - Operations, Nissan Forklift

Abstract: This program will cover the impact of quality and short interval scheduling on processes through a review of its benefits in a case study. A discussion on how the deployed methods can be applied cross functionally and across industries, and the investment required for implementation and potential ROI, will also be examined.
