Daniel Capano, Diversified Technological Services, joins Control Engineering editorial advisory board

Daniel Capano, the owner of Diversified Technological Services Inc., of Stamford, Conn., joined the Control Engineering editorial advisory board in February.

Control Engineering announced on Feb. 1 that Daniel E. Capano has joined its editorial advisory board to provide input to editorial staff on editorial content, relevancy, automation market, and audience; to serve as a first-level sounding board for new initiatives and ideas; and to participate in events and contribute editorially.

Capano has provided instrumentation and electrical consulting services for over 30 years and has participated in the design, construction and start up of projects as diverse as water and wastewater treatment, odor control, and power generation. He is the owner of Diversified Technical Services Inc., of Stamford, Conn., providing technical and construction management services to leading engineering and contracting firms.

He is the vice-chairman of the Stamford Water Pollution Control Authority (SWPCA) and chairs its Technical Committee. He is a 30 year member, and the president of the New York City Section of the International Society of Automation (ISA), and is the vice-chair of the Information Technology & Automation (IT&A) sub-committee of the New England Water Environment Association’s (NEWEA) Asset Management Committee. 

Capano has written and presented on instrumentation, wireless, cybersecurity and data communication topics. He contributed a regular blog to Control Engineering magazine, Industrial Wireless Tutorials, which focused on wireless trends and concepts that focused on the basics of industrial wireless technologies, wireless concepts, wireless standards, along with a bit of wireless best practices. He has contributed to the Electronic Technician Association’s new Information Technology Security Specialist certification exam and to the latest revision of Network Systems Technician certification exam, supplying the new exam section on wireless technology. 

Capano’s textbook, “Network Cabling for Contractors,” is still in print, and he continues to publish regularly in leading industry publications, including Control Engineering. He is an experienced industrial control system (ICS) cybersecurity practitioner and is an advocate for the use of wireless communications technology in process monitoring and control. He is a Certified Wireless Security Professional, a Certified Wireless Network Administrator and holds an FCC General Radio Operator License.
