EC: EXPC-1319 Panel Computer

Hardware - Industrial PCs: The EXPC-1319 is one of the industry's most rugged and capable panel computers designed for use in oil and gas installations and other hazardous industrial locations. This is a Control Engineering 2014 Engineers’ Choice finalist.

The EXPC-1319 is a hazardous area panel computer designed to operate in the harsh conditions found in oil and gas fields. It delivers reliable, high-performance computing for operator control and monitoring, data collection, visualization tasks and mission-critical communication, while being fully enclosed to withstand the heat, moisture, vibration and dangerous gases that are inherent to oil and gas operations.

Compliant with UL Class 1, Div 2 , ATEC Zone 2, and IECEx hazardous location codes, the EXPC-1319 is qualified for direct installation in hazardous areas worldwide where potentially explosive gases or vapors may be present. Because these areas are often subject to high humidity, the panels are sealed off to NEMA4X and IP66 ingress standards to protect sensitive electronics from water ingress, even when they are deployed outdoors.

A patented fanless panel design provides the EXPC-1319 with highly efficient heat dissipation. It meets T5 temperature requirements by maintaining an operating temperature of 120 C (248 F) or less with an ambient temperature of 60 C (140 F). The EXPC-1319 is also fully functional down to -40 C (-40 F), conditions expected in arctic oil drilling.

The EXPC-1319 features a 19-in. anti-glare, anti-scratch 1000-nit LCD panel that is fully viewable in direct sunlight. Instead of simply increasing power to the LED light bars, Moxa developed technology with high efficiency bulbs to achieve a 10% reduction in power consumption and a 40% increase in life expectancy for the bulb, with no compromise to the display brightness or quality.

The EXPC-1319 is powered by an Intel 1.8 GHz Atom core D525 that combines lightning processing speed with low power consumption. Operators can select to use the LCD in either touch-screen or standard mode. Additional features include serial interfaces, Gigabit LAN ports, USBs, and VGA ports tested for full compliance with flame proofing requirements.
