Harting and North Central College in Naperville, Ill., officially opened the Harting Electronics Lab in the college’s Dr. Myron Wentz Science Center. The ribbon-cutting took place in the center’s Tradition of Excellence Gallery.

The Harting Electronics Lab is designed to introduce students to electronic methods and applications across all aspects of engineering. As part of the partnership, Harting is also donating equipment that will help students work with the latest real-world technology.

“This is a very special occasion for us,” said Jon DeSouza, president and CEO of Harting Americas. It was a special moment for DeSouza and in some ways coming full circle. He graduated from North Central College in 1998 with a B.A. in international business.

DeSouza said the college’s science, technology, physics, math and other academic programming “goes hand-in-hand with what Harting does." The alumnus added later in his speech that, “It is an honor and privilege to be back here for this occasion.”

After the ceremonial ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees were invited to tour the lab and to visit the Harting van outside the building, which had executives and experts on hand to discuss some of the company’s developments and how they can be used in real life.
