said in a followup summary. Andre C. Keijser, manager of development at Brimos, an OEM of traffic guidance equipment based in the Netherlands, presented details of how the governing ministry for traffic in the Netherlands reviewed and selected CIP Networks, specifically EtherNet/IP, as the standard for vehicle detection, traffic density, and traffic lane signaler applications.

“The benefits of EtherNet/IP, including its basis on standard, unmodified Ethernet, its installed base, its object-oriented approach, and ODVA’s global presence all were factors in the decision. The spirit of collaboration between competitors to advance these networks,” Keijser said, “personally reaffirms this decision.”

EtherNet/IP and Modbus/TCP, the two largest industrial Ethernet protocols are “merging values,” says Cyril Perducat, senior vice president, system consistency at Schneider Electric , when discussing ODVA and CIP Networks’ value to Schneider Electric’s Transparent Ready business philosophy. “This cooperation merges the values of the two largest Industrial Ethernet protocols,” he says, “reducing confusion in the marketplace and creating a de-facto standard for industrial Ethernet, which allows us to protect customers’ investments and the installed base. The combination of EtherNet/IP and Modbus/TCP will deliver the fieldbus services necessary to achieve the promise of Ethernet from plant floor to the board room.”

ODVA’s global officers elected for upcoming terms include president: Doug McEldowney; executive director: Katherine Voss; treasurer: Steve Freedman; chief technology officer: Rich Harwell; and secretary: Katherine Voss. Dave Dodds of Numatics and Steve Freedman of Sick were re-elected by members to serve as directors on ODVA’s Board. Jörgen Palmhager of HMS Industrial Networks was re-elected by members to serve as a representative on ODVA’s Technical Review Board. Damien Leterrier of Woodhead Industries, a division of Molex, will join the Technical Review Board for his first term.

Training for new vendors and end-users during the three-day event included the first in a new series of seminars: “EtherNet/IP: Quick Start.” Other presentations covered CompoNet, CIP Motion; CompoNet processor design; CIP Safety on SERCOS, EtherNet/IP media, international standards, CIP Safety for process applications, and DeviceNet low cost media.
