Palatine, IL — Correlating a relationship between a company’s energy consumption and its consumption-based CO 2 emissions, a new emissions tracking and reporting software module can help corporations achieve higher energy efficiency while reducing energy-related emissions, costs and downtime. The software, which delivers green house gas (GHG) reporting, Square D PowerLogic Ion EEM (enterprise energy management) software and expert engineering services from Schneider Electric .

Armed with facts, CO 2 emissions are no longer just an inevitable consequence of energy use, but a manageable variable in a company’s operations” comments Jim Plourde, industrial vertical sales manager for Schneider Electric’s Power Management business.e and use energy, PowerLogic Ion EEM dashboards are a useful tool. They combine economic and environmental data for a more comprehensive understanding of the true cost and efficiency drivers of meeting emissions standards.

The new module follows guidelines presented by the GHG Protocol for direct and indirect (purchased) green house gas emissions. It tracks emissions from combustion boilers, furnaces, vehicles, chemical production or controlled process equipment, as well as emissions from an organization’s utilities such as purchased electricity or steam – those which emit carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), methane (CH 4 ), and nitrous oxide (N 2 O) into the atmosphere. Indirect emissions depend on the amount of energy used and the mix of fuel that goes into producing this electricity or steam, so the module helps delineate direct and indirect emission sources, and assists organizations in implementing their climate policies.

Reports include aggregate CO 2 output vs. target vs. base year to track emission reductions project performance, and multi-source CO 2 output vs. target to compare the emissions performance of various business units, regions, buildings, facilities, departments, etc.d reporting company emission performance over time.

Data is available for trend analysis and reporting and included in views such as normalized energy usage patterns and key performance indicators (KPIs). The software’s data presentation layer provides information via a Web-enabled dashboard to aid energy managers with energy and emissions benchmarking, keeping programs on track relative to a target value, variances and base year totals, as well as a breakdown of CO 2 output by commodity and validation of the resulting return on investment.

Separately, Schneider released version 7.1 of its PowerLogic SCADA software, which provides instant data intelligence regarding power distribution specifically for electrical power system applications.tem also features Sequence of Events Recorder (SER) logs with time stamps of 1ms resolution, and has a Web-based client for remote viewing capability.  Critical power technical reference repository Schneider Electric’s Square D Critical Power Competency Center (CPCC) in Nashville, TN, also has expanded its offerings to help users get the power advice they need. A newly redesigned Web site, www.criticalpowernow.com , now includes archived whitepapers and technical presentations. Resources are categorized by topic areas related to electrical reliability within data centers and other critical power environments. They provide useful technical information for electrical engineers, facility managers, consultants, energy managers and other professionals responsible for developing and maintaining critical power facilities.

"The Square D to that expertise." More will be added regularly. It now contains "many relevant papers and presentations" to help industry professionals create and maintain the reliable electrical networks, Bidinger says.

Example subjects include: system grounding and ground-fault protection methods for UPS-supplied power systems, maintaining the long term reliability of critical power systems, and “power system reliability beyond the 9s: a software-oriented approach.”
