Jerguson LumaStar flat-glass LED illuminator backlighting unit for transparent level gauges simplifies the challenging task of verifying levels. Device, from Clark-Reliance , does not depend on a single light source. It features a redundant array of LED lights approximately every 1/2-in. to ensure that multiple bulbs are available for bright, even light distribution.

Unit reportedly radiates more light through gauge glasses than older, incandescent types, making it easier to verify levels in columns, vessels, drum, and similar containers. Maintenance-free bulb has a life of more than 10 yr. In addition, the unit covers up to four gauge sections, surpassing the length limitations of wedge- or fiberoptic-type illuminators that cover a maximum of two or three gauge sections, respectively. A single illuminator and power supply is reportedly sufficient for a majority of level gauge applications.

Device comes in 120- and 240-V ac options and is FM-approved for use in hazardous environments.
