Santa Barbara, CA; Elz, Germany— To assist users in automotive and industrial controls markets, Green Hills Software Inc. is offering a complete, royalty-free CAN Application Developers Kit through its partnership with Steinhoff Automation . Green Hills says it’s the worldwide market leader in royalty-free, real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded software development tools.

This developers’ kit will initially be available for the Motorola Scalable Controller Area Network (MSCAN) architecture. This architecture is integrated on the mobileGT MPC5200 embedded processor, and supported on both the lite5200 and Total5200 reference systems available from Motorola’s semiconductor product sector.

The royalty-free CAN developers’ kit consists of the CAN driver and C-API service call library for Green Hills’ Integrity RTOS, along with several examples in source code. Both the driver and C-API are small and efficient. Support for CANopen with Integrity can be made available upon request. Steinhoff is planning additional CAN controller support for Integrity.

Support for the developers’ kit is expected in early 2004, with demonstration capability included on the Integrity MPC5200 CD in the first half of 2004.

‘We’re seeing a dramatic increase worldwide in fieldbus requests for Integrity RTOS support, so we’re pleased to make our DACHS product suite available to our mutual customers,’ says Jutta Steinhoff, Steinhoff’s marketing manager. ‘We’re also pleased to join the list of companies that are already part of Green Hills’ Integrity Partner Program.’ Dan Mender, Green Hills’ Integrity business development director, adds that, ‘Green Hills Software is pleased to have Steinhoff’s mature CAN support available for Integrity. The flexible, royalty-free licensing model will be a great value to our customers.’

Green Hills adds that Integrity is a fast, deterministic RTOS designed for applications that require high reliability, small size and real-time responsiveness. Using the hardware memory protection facilities of the processor’s memory management units (MMU), Integrity builds a firewall between the kernel and user tasks that prevents errant or malicious tasks from corrupting user data, kernel, inter-process communications, device drivers and other user tasks. Integrity also enhances reliability and determinism by running with interrupts continuously enabled, and guaranteeing access to the CPU and memory for critical tasks.
