Austin, TX – HART Communication Foundation (HFC) supported the ISA104 demo at ISA Expo 2008; HART 7 test specs provide compliance verification for new products, and the first field device was verified using the specifications. Additionally, more process automation suppliers committed to the WirelessHART Standard, and, as previously reported, the HART Communication Specification achieved recognition from the IEC International standards body. The Foundation joined control industry leaders in supporting Electronic Device Description Language (EDDL) solutions for process automation systems and devices in the ISA104 Standards Committee booth at ISA Expo in Houston this month. Process automation systems supplied by ABB, Emerson, Invensys, and Siemens demonstrated EDDL functionality, interoperating with devices from Emerson, Endress+Hauser, Foxboro Eckardt, Metso, MTL, Samson, and Siemens. HART Communication Protocol Slave Test Specifications updated to the HART 7 standard provide standardized test plans to verify the compliance of HART products to assist developers in producing a quality product and to ensure that the product will meet HCF compliance registration requirements. Developed by member company experts and the Foundation staff, the specifications were approved by HCF member companies. HART 7, the latest enhancement to the HART Protocol, enables new capabilities for communication with intelligent field devices, moving technology into wireless communication with WirelessHART. Executives from leading automation companies expressed commitment to WirelessHART wireless protocol and announced product release schedules at ISA Expo 2008. Representatives from ABB, Emerson Process Management, Endress+Hauser, and Siemens spoke of the positive impact WirelessHART technology will have on the process industry and their expectation for its quick adoption. HART Communication Foundation (HCF) registered the first field device to be verified using the approved HART 7 Test Specification. Hoffer Flow Controls HRT1 Rate Indicator/Totalizer was verified by the Foundation to successfully meet the HART 7 Protocol standard and carries the HART Registered mark. Using Protocol test tools, suppliers test devices to verify conformance submitting test data, documentation, and device to the Foundation.

WirelessHART Communication Specification (HART 7.1) was recognized by IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission)

as a Publicly Available Specification (IEC/PAS 62591Ed. 1).
