London – The future of Invensys lies in becoming platform and hardware independent, says Leo Quinn, the chief operating officer of Invensys Production Management Division . Mr. Quinn made the statement during a recent interview with Control Engineering Europe at the London headquarters of Invensys. ”I don’t want it to reflect to the marketplace that we don’t care about hardware,” he said. ”But why should a customer buy your software solution and then have to buy your controllers? Or have to buy your transmitters?”

”How much differentiation is there between a Honeywell controller, an ABB controller, or a Foxboro controller?” he asked. ”When was the last PID equation written? Fifty years ago? … I actually don’t have to worry whether I buy Foxboro, ABB, Honeywell, Foundation Fieldbus, or HART.

”Through the ArchestrA framework all of these legacy systems can seamlessly interoperate with each other and with any or all of the fieldbuses that are out there.”
