Network technologies to be discussed

Chicago, IL. Among industrial network technologies highlighted at National Manufacturing Week will be panels on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday, March 19, at 1 p.m., in the Innovations Arena, Booth #6533, in the South Hall, will be an encore presentation of the SupplyChainLinkExpo technology webcast, ‘Ethernet & Industrial Networks.’ Participating organizations are Fieldbus Foundation, Profibus/AS-i, and DeviceNet/ODVA. The webcast is moderated by Mark T. Hoske, Control Engineering editor in chief. Audience participation will be encouraged afterward.

Fieldbus Industry Roundtable Panel will take place on Wednesday, March 20, from 1-2:30 p.m. in room S503A (McCormick South building, Level 5). Mark Hoske will moderate the panel.

Panelists will be:

  • Michael Bryant (representing both Profibus and AS-interface)

  • Larry Komarek (Interbus)

  • Rich Timoney (Fieldbus Foundation)

  • Katherine Voss (ODVA & ControlNet International)

Areas to be covered include:

  • What steps are being taken to ensure users plug-and-play connectivity?

  • What issues are you working on to allow users the ability to transfer data between legacy networks and networks of the future?

  • What do you see as the biggest challenges for field networks in the next year?

  • What issues should end-users watch out for when implementing a fieldbus?

  • Will Ethernet be the dominant fieldbus?

  • What are the impediments to wider adoption of field networks?
