In a new three-minute online video presentation, Sierra Instruments illustrates the operation of its capillary thermal mass flow measurement technology, and how that is used to control gas flow.

The educational video provides an inside-out description showing the flow path of gas molecules within the mass flow controller and illustrates key technology advantages of capillary thermal flow measurement technology. Watch the video .

Sierra’s Smart-Trak Model 100 digital mass flowmeters and controllers use thermal mass flow technology, calculating flow based on the cooling action of the gas in a heated capillary tube. A small portion of the gas through the device is diverted through the tube, and that measured amount provides the basis for calculating the balance. An internal PID function controls a valve to regulate the flow to a specific setpoint.

Sierra says the inherently linear mechanical design, advanced platinum sensor technology, and sophisticated valve results in excellent direct mass flow rate calculation accuracy and instrument stability.
