Mike Caliel, president and CEO of Invensys Operations Management, explains what to consider when prioritizing automation modernization opportunities.

By Mark T. Hoske April 10, 2012

Mike Caliel, president and CEO of Invensys Operations Management, talks to  CFE Media and Control Engineering and Plant Engineering, about automation modernization opportunities during the ARC Advisory Group 2012 Forum in February.

Caliel suggests looking at performance, safety, and reliability when prioritizing modernization decisions.

He also suggests not overlooking the human aspects of decisions: How do key personnel relate to and assimilate changes in technologies?

Also important is the business context for any implementation. Consider how the new automation, controls, and instrumentation will improve operations, rather than just implementing technology for technology’s sake. (Video: 2:30 minutes)
