Cloud-based solutions and how to create customer value, were among discussion from Satoru Kurosu and Simon Wright of Yokogawa, at the 20th Annual ARC Industry Forum on Feb. 8 in Orlando. Kurosu, director and executive vice president, head of solutions service business headquarters discussed creating customer value beyond the plant. Simon Wright, CEO of Yokogawa’s industrial knowledge business unit, discussed cloud-based, customer-connected advanced solutions. Wright was formerly CEO of Industrial Evolution, a provider of cloud-based plant data-sharing services, a company that Yokogawa acquired in January 2016.
Kurosu said the new Yokogawa business unit, formed after acquisition of Industrial Evolution, aims to provide synergy and customer value creation through integrated data and analytics. It provides a secure cloud platform, data as a service (DaaS), and business applications on top of that.
Wright said DaaS the effort began in 2000 for oil and gas utility companies. It is built on Osisoft PI and structured query language (SQL), moves data to a data center, a private cloud, and adds analytical value. It is scalable to millions of data points, proven, secure, reliable, and is data source agnostic for data type, application vendor, and service provider.
Both discussed the business strategy of advanced solutions that integrate operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) to enable industrial organizations to create value, foster sustainable business growth, and build synergies that contribute to a company’s effective transformation.
