Dallas, TX— To help system designers improve industrial network reliability, Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) introduced Sept. 11 its new Profibus transceivers that offer low signal distortion and are compliant with EN 50170 and TIA/EIA-485 standards.

TI reports that its SN65HVD1176 and SN75HVD1176 transceivers provide improved output transition skew of less than 1 nanosecond, typically 0.2 nsec, giving system designers the ability to tighten the timing budget of networked applications. HVD1176 also features high ESD protection of 10 kV and failsafe for open, idle and shorted bus conditions, which TI adds are ideal for demanding industrial applications.

‘Siemens chose HVD1176 because it allows our designers to control the timing aspect of the automation process to a greater degree,’ says Manfred Sand, of Siemens A&D. ‘SN65HVD1176 driver output transition skew is so tight that it can be used for special diagnostic functions.’

HVD1176 half-duplex transceivers are designed for Profibus and RS-485 networks. Powered by a 5 V supply, the transceivers have low skew during output transitions and driver enabling/disabling, which makes them suitable for signaling rates up to 40 Mbps over long twisted-pair cables. HVD1176 also provides common-mode rejection up to 50 MHz and 1/5 unit load to have 160 nodes on a bus.
