Comtrol Corp . recently expanded its line of DeviceMaster products to include DeviceMaster 16-port serial hub. The firm reports that its 10/100 Base-T hub can network-enable virtually any RS-232 serial device. Also, users who currently own, purchase, or upgrade to DeviceMaster serial hubs or device servers can receive Comtrol’s new, graphical PortVision serial port management console free or charge.

Both the new 16-port hub and DeviceMaster’s eight-port model, announced a month earlier, deliver quick and easy peripheral connectivity using Ethernet LAN, and are ideally suited for applications where multiple peripherals are located long distances from the server. As a result, the new hub offers a LAN-attached solution, easy installation, 16 native COM ports, and superior application compatibility. It also supports RS-232 serial communication with speeds up to 230 Kbps.

The bundled packaging of DeviceMaster serial hubs with PortVision software gives network administrators an easy-to-use, affordable, graphical, and convenient way to remotely access, manage, and configure serial devices from a centrally located PC. PortVision software detects and graphically displays, in detail, every DeviceMaster server on a network. Now, network administrators can see real-time operating conditions of each device server at a glance.
