Boston, Mass. - As announced in late April, ABB (Norwalk, Conn.) has become the 30th sponsoring member of " Motor Decisions Matter ," the national campaign to develop an overall management plan for electric motors.

Management plans and programs of Motor Decisions Matter (MDM) address common motor decisions needed to be on hand before equipment failure occurs. MDM helps ensure motor availability and lowers downtime and energy costs. Motor Decisions Matter applies life-cycle costing methods to determine whether motors should be repaired or replaced before they fail, and also when to install energy-efficient motors.

In the motors sector of its varied businesses, ABB offers a large range of ac induction motors, synchronous motors, and generators that serve manufacturing, process and consumer industries, utilities, and oil/gas markets.

Other sponsor members of MDM include service centers, electric utilities, government agencies, and trade associations. Among the latter are Electrical Apparatus Service Association (EASA, St. Louis, Mo.) and National Electric Manufacturers Association (NEMA, Roslynn, Va.). The Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE, Boston, Mass.) coordinates the Motor Decisions Matter campaign.
