Curtiss-Wright: PMC product combines graphics control, video capture

Curtiss-Wright Controls, Embedded Computing, Real Time Video and Graphics (CW Graphics) has recently launched a new cost-effective, high-resolution PMC graphics display controller and video capture card for VME, CompactPCI, and PCI systems.


Topaz/PMC is available off-the-shelf, with pricing from $750 in single-piece quantities.

Curtiss-Wright Controls , Embedded Computing, Real Time Video and Graphics (CW Graphics) has recently launched a new cost-effective, high-resolution PMC graphics display controller and video capture card for VME, CompactPCI, and PCI systems. Named Topaz/PMC, the card targets wide graphic applications with front and rear-panel I/O configurations.

A 128-bit SM731 graphics engine (from Silicon Motion ) powers the card, and supports up to 1,600 x 1,200 pixel screen resolutions. SM731—a System-On-a Chip display controller—includes 16 MB SDRAM display memory to provide ample local storage for image and off-screen data, such as texture maps, Z-buffer, and backing store. [Just to be clear, PMC refers to PCI (or peripheral component interconnect) mezzanine card.]

CW Graphics considers Topaz/PMC “unmatched in configuration flexibility” for an entry-level graphics and video card. It outputs a wide range of graphics and video formats and interface types, including single- and dual-channel analog and LVDS, and single-channel DVI and Stanag 3350. Other Topaz/PMC key features include on-board 33/66 MHz, 32-bit PCI interface; self-test capability via video output/input loopback; and conduction-cooled PMC (CCPMC) form-factor compatible. Operating temperature range is 0 to 70

Topaz/PMC supports Linux, LynxOS, Microsoft Windows, and Wind River VxWorks operating systems; various drivers are available for each. Software provided by CW Graphics includes SDL (Standard Drawing Library) a compact, scaleable graphics subroutine package for Linux, VxWorks, and LynxOS.
