Display executives, astronaut, highlight SID 2006 program
Executives from three major display-industry companies and an astronaut are among those on the docket for the upcoming Society for Information Display (SID) international symposium, seminar, and exhibition. Representatives from LG.Philips LCD, Matsushita, and Qualcomm will give keynote addresses. Dr. Gregory H. Olsen, Ph.D., the third private citizen to orbit the Earth aboard the International Space Station, will speak at the Society’s annual luncheon. SID 2006 will take place June 4-9 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
The speakers will cover a broad range of topics from liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) to plasma display panel (PDP) technology to portable displays. Bock Kwon, executive vice president of marketing and sales for LG.Philips LCD, will discuss how consistent technological innovation will continue to drive LCD industry growth. Dr. Takeshi Uenoyama, director of the advanced technology research laboratories and image devices development center at Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., will explore plasma-display-panel (PDP) technology, products, and business strategies. Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, CEO of Qualcomm Inc., will address how mobile devices will transform the way we work and play through year 2010.
Luncheon speaker Olsen completed 150 orbits of the earth and traveled almost 4 million weightless miles during his 10-day space voyage in October 2005. He paid $20 million for the privilege of being a passenger on a Russian Soyuz rocket as it brought a new crew to the International Space Station. Currently, he is president of GHO Ventures in Princeton, NJ. He is an advocate of children, especially minorities and females, considering careers in science and engineering and is active in the New Jersey Technology Counsel (NJTC), IEEE, and the NJ Commission on Science and Technology.
The event will also include a business conference where more than a dozen display industry executives will offer insights on the display marketplace. Some 7,500 are expected to attend SID 2006; more than 500 vendors are set to exhibit. Click here for more details.
