How do you define human-machine interface? What does it mean in your operation? Control Engineering would like to know.

The December 2004 issue of Control Engineering magazine will feature a "Back to Basics" article that looks at the varying definitions of HMI. A while back, we asked enewsletter readers to share their views on HMIs. The responses were sufficiently interesting to prompt us to re-visit the topic more formally. What do you consider an HMI? A touchscreen? A PDA? A tablet PC? All of these? Email your definitions and perspectives on defining HMIs to . Selected comments will be used in the preparation of the article, with attribution to the submitter. If the response warrants, contributions will be posted online. Email your remarks by Sept. 30 to have them considered for the article.
