Hardware - Industrial PCs: Designline is a configurable, direct machine-mount industrial PC with IP65 protection and multi-touch capability. This is a Control Engineering 2014 Engineers’ Choice honorable mention.Phoenix Contact's Designline is a configurable industrial PC that can be directly mounted on the machine. The DL 1000 combines attractive design, multi-touch operation and high-performance technology in a robust IP65 industrial PC.

Designline has an IP65 rating and fanless design. Because it is safe to use directly on the factory floor, it eliminates the need for additional control cabinet and housing costs. The VESA-mounting hardware mounts easily, securely and directly on the machine. This can improve ergonomics for the operator. For example, the device can be installed at eye level on the front of the machine, and used as a hardware platform for a manufacturing execution system. Since it measures just 60-mm deep, it takes up minimal space.

The DL 1000 series is currently available in two 15-in. touch screen options. The user can choose either resistive single-touch, or two-finger capacitive multi-touch, for intuitive gesture operation. The integrated function button on the front ensures easy operation such as brightness adjustment, an easy-to-access software keyboard and a right-click function.

If maintenance is necessary, components are easy to access. The convenient, removable hard drive tray makes it easy to swap out an HDD/SDD. LED display backlighting and a passive cooling scheme ensure long system life and low maintenance costs. Designline has an extended temperature rating between -20 and 55 C.

The DL 1000 operates on the Intel Atom E680 T 1.60 GHz CPU, which provides a balance of processing power and energy efficiency. Additional CPU and screen sizes will be available later in 2013.
