Emerson gives sample code to helps spur high-speed Ethernet development

Austin, TX—As part of its commitment to open, interoperable standards, Emerson Process Management announced July 8 that it has donated High-Speed Ethernet (HSE) 'sample code' to the Fieldbus Foundation (FF, Austin, TX).


Austin, TX— As part of its commitment to open, interoperable standards, Emerson Process Management announced July 8 that it has donated High-Speed Ethernet (HSE) 'sample code' to the Fieldbus Foundation (FF, Austin, TX). This HSE sample code will help suppliers accelerate development of HSE Linking Devices and HSE devices. This sample code is available to FF’s members as part of its HSE Packet Analyzer Toolkit Professional (AT-442).

'AT-442 gives developers a royalty-free, licensed sample source code to jump-start HSE device development,' says Stephen Mitchke, FF’s fieldbus products manager. 'End-users employing FOUNDATION fieldbus devices and permanently connected online asset management software need HSE performance. As demand builds for HSE-based fieldbus solutions, manufacturers will not want to be left behind in the development of field devices and linking devices that utilize this advanced technology.'

John Berra, Emerson Process Management’s president, adds that, 'Emerson has long demonstrated its commitment to open interoperable standards from the donation of HART technology to the HART Communication Foundation...to our leading role as master editor of the original OPC specification and first president of the OPC Foundation...to our donations of DDL technology plus control-in-the-field patents to the Fieldbus Foundation. FF previously released the AT-440 toolkit to expedite development of HSE-based fieldbus products. The AT-442 professional version retains the HSE packet analyzer, HSE device implementation guide and sample HSE field device from the original toolkit, but also includes new, essential features that guide developers through the device development process. These include simultaneous dual-port capture, an enhanced live list view with per device statistics, and a sample HSE stack source code.
