Gigabit Ethernet workgroup switch for control rooms

Neckartenzlingen, Germany— Hirschmann Electronics GmbH & Co. KG has expanded its product range by introducing its Lion-24TP Gigabit Ethernet workgroup switch. Lion-24TP enables workgroups with variable numbers of members to be connected to the network backbone. Security and management functions reportedly make this workgroup switch ideal for use at the interface between industrial and office networks, such as in factory or process automation control rooms.

Lion-24TP includes 24 Fast Ethernet ports with RJ-45 connections, and provides two uplinks, configured optionally for 100Base-FX and for 1,000Base-SX, -LX, or -T. The device also supports a security mechanism for IEEE 802.1x by providing centralized authentication by server, such as Radius or Tacacs+.

The switch also provides up to 255 active LANs for creating virtual workgroups. Based on Generic VLAN Registration Protocol (GVRP), the switch also permits automatic VLAN registration and dynamic VLAN management.

Lion-24TP can be configured by a browser (Web-based management), TELNET Console Interface, or by Command Line Interface (CLI). In addition, two different versions of the firmware can be stored, enabling updates to be carried out more easily.
