Honeywell delivers control solutions to Romanian power plants
Phoenix, AZ—Honeywell Industry Solutions announced Jan. 3 that it is implementing orders for more than $2 million worth of process control systems, instruments, and engineering services for automation projects at multiple SC Termoelectrica SA power plants in Romania.
Phoenix, AZ— Honeywell Industry Solutions
'We're convinced that the implementation of the Honeywell process management solutions for reengineering the SC Termoelectrica SA power groups and thermal stations will greatly improve their performance by increasing exploitation efficiency and lowering operation costs,' says Ion Marcu, Termoelectrica's gm.
Gheorghe Tucu, Honeywell's sales and country manager, adds that, 'By replacing the existing analog control systems, the process control system gains several benefits. This modernization allows Termoelectrica to implement advanced process control algorithms; improve the reliability and safety of its power plants; reduce maintenance costs by up to 10%; and reduce startup costs by around 20%. In addition, using state-of-the-art automation equipment prepares these sites for implementation of Honeywell's information and advanced control applications, which can lead to further energy and performance improvements.'
The automation solution at Iasi, Romania employs Honeywell's process control system and also includes field instrumentation and control valves. The solution controls two 50-MW gas and oil co-generation units. The first phase of the $1.2 million automation project was implemented in 2Q01 with Honeywell supplying engineering, commissioning, and startup services. The second phase of the project was completed during 4Q02.
Meanwhile, at Iernut, Romania, Honeywell's process control system is being installed on a 100-MW, gas-condensing unit along with field instrumentation, control valves, and analyzers. Honeywell is also providing engineering, commissioning, and startup, which was scheduled for completion during 4Q02. This automation solution cost $800,000. An additional 100-MW unit is planned for the Iernut power plant.
Honeywell Romania was also installing process control systems for coalhouse handling, boiler control, high-pressure pipe control, and field instrumentation at three other Termoelectrica power plants during 2002. These projects, located at Paroseni, Bacau, and Pitesti, included all engineering and project services to improve efficiency at the power plants. The combined value of these contracts was $520,000.
'We're convinced that, in the upcoming years, the collaboration between our companies will continue by extending Honeywell's presence in the SC Termoelectrica SA power groups. This will occur through implementation of advanced process management systems and through the implementation and optimization of safety surveillance solutions,' adds Mr. Marcu.
SC Termoelectrica SA is Romania's leading thermal power company, focusing on generation of electricity and heating from fossil fuels. SC Termoelectrica owns 11 power subsidiaries and one power branch, which operate 17 thermal power plants.
