New products introduced into the HMI marketplace this month include flat-panel display monitors, an operator station enhancement, rear-mount touch monitor, and virtual keyboard device. Here are some highlights and benefits of these latest recent offerings.

Flat-panel display kiosk monitors.

Family of flat-panel display kiosk monitors from Three-Five Systems, Inc. , feature wide viewing angles, high contrast, excellent resolution, and superior durability. Customizable standard products are designed to cut time to market for OEMs. They are suited for space-constrained kiosk applications and demanding industrial environments such as process control, automation, HMI, security monitoring, and clean rooms.
Displays may used as platforms that are easily modified to incorporate such features as integrated wireless capability, touchscreens, customized bezel color, custom electrical/mechanical interfaces, alternative power supplies, and more. Monitors come in a variety of sizes from 12.1 to 20.1 in. Rack-mount versions are also available.

PCS 7/505 OS, a PCS 7 operator station enhancement for legacy TI process control systems from Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. , lets users apply Totally Integrated Automation and Simatic IT technology to their processes. Operator station allows the updating of systems to current technology that delivers functional enhancements and technological advancements to improve system capability. Users gain better system performance and additional features. Totally Integrated Automation provides uniform automation technology on a single platform for all industries over the entire manufacturing facility.

LCD rear mount touch monitor

New 1947L 19-in. LCD rear mount touch monitor from Elo TouchSystems, Inc. , a business unit of Tyco Electronics, expands the family of LCD chassis products that feature the company’s IntelliTouch or SecureTouch surface-wave technologies. By projecting a full-size keyboard image onto a flat surface, the device analyzes what is being typed according to the coordinates of the location. Users have no wear or tear issues. Virtual keyboard weighs 2 oz, is the size of a disposable cigarette lighter and has no mechanical parts. It includes a self-contained, rechargeable lithium ion battery providing an internal power supply of 3 to 4 hr. It is compatible with most PCs and laptops and runs on Microsoft Windows 98/2000/XP and most PDAs using Palm or Pocket PC operating systems.
