ISPE and PES agreement for international job analysis study

12/21/2005

Tampa, FLInternational Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering’s (ISPE) Professional Certification Commission (PCC) has an agreement with Professional Examination Service (PES) to perform an international job analysis study. PCC is a governing body of the ISPE.

The PCC study will define the major competencies demonstrated by drug product-development and manufacturing professionals in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as the technical knowledge and expertise required by such professionals. Results of the current study will be used to develop key components of ISPE’s upcoming credentialing program for pharmaceutical professionals.

Commenting on the agreement, Jerry Roth, P.E., ISPE’s director of Professional Certification, said, “The job analysis is the most critical step in developing a new industry credential. PCC is pleased to be working with PES.”

Practice analysis began in October 2005, seeking input from a broad range of stakeholders. Working with the PCC—as well as content experts taking part in critical incidents interviews and an independent review—PES will facilitate the development of a detailed description of the competencies demonstrated by, and knowledge required of, pharmaceutical drug product development and manufacturing professionals worldwide. The results will be validated through a Web-based survey distributed to up to 1,200 professionals worldwide in early January 2006.

PCC is a governing body, within 25-year-old ISPE, established to create certification programs and develop credentials that benefit credential holders and their employers as well as government, academia and the public health product consumer. It is composed of 14 commissioners—senior-level industry professionals representing Australia, Japan, The Netherlands, North America, and the United Kingdom as well as academia, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the general public. ISPE’s over-22,000 members are situated in 19 nations.
