Huntsville, AL — Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd . (AECL), a nuclear technology company, has signed a multi-year pact with Intergraph Corp . to integrate SmartPlant Enterprise with other AECL project delivery application tools.
The engineering environment, including SmartPlant 3-D, will be deployed across AECL to integrate engineering and analysis, modeling and design, materials management and project implementation, and information management for the company’s advanced CANDU (CANada Deuterium Uranium) Reactors (ACR-1000). ACR-1000 is an evolutionary, Generation III+, 1200 MWe (megawatt electrical) class pressure tube reactor, reportedly designed to meet industry and public expectations for safe, reliable, environmentally friendly, and low-cost nuclear generation.
SmartPlant Enterprise and SmartPlant 3-D reportedly will play a critical role in AECL’s ACR-1000 projects, providing the company with an advanced plant design environment based on a data-centric, rule-driven architecture. Integrating key engineering disciplines is expected to create an environment that offers improvements over the constraints imposed by traditional plant design systems. The improvements are said to represent substantial gains, productivity, and savings in project engineering, manufacturing, and construction.
