Carlsbad, CA— Helicomm is demonstrating a prototype of an integrated platform, Wireless Image SensorNet, at Sensors Expo 2004, June 7-10, at Cobo Center in Detroit. The wireless im-age-sensing platform integrates Agilent's low-cost, low power CMOS image sensors with Heli-comm's flexible, ZigBee-based wireless networking products. Helicomm manufactures embedded wireless networking solutions.

Helicomm will focus on securing initial customers for the integrated wireless image-sensing platform in several markets, including security monitoring, home control, traffic management and logistics management. The company says users need enhanced sensory input to aid complex, dis-tributed decisions, combined with the reliability, flexibility and ease of use that standards-based wireless networking provides.

'As the wireless sensor networking market moves past the technology development and inte-gration phase, adopters are asking for applications that deliver measured value and ROI. The an-nouncement by Agilent and Helicomm regarding an integrated wireless mesh CMOS sensor ap-plication for variance monitoring is a clear sign that the industry is moving into the next phase of development, and that these two companies are at the forefront of the development curve,' says Ian McPherson, president of Wireless Data Research Group.

Agilent's CMOS image sensors enable manufacturers and systems integrators to capture and transmit images; pre-process images; and only transmit very small amounts of application-level data, such as alarms. Helicomm's wireless networking platform includes embedded modules, net-work gateways and the tools and software that enable customers to quickly integrate and deploy wireless sensor-based applications.

'We’re impressed with the level of expertise within Helicomm. The strong relationship will accelerate the market acceptance of integrated wireless imaging solutions,' adds Jeff Schnur, manager of Agilent's Wireless Sensor Initiative.

'We're delighted to partner with the world leader in CMOS image sensors,' says Jack Sun, Helicomm’s president and CEO. 'The combination of Agilent's low-power image sensors and Helicomm's wireless networking platform will simplify and accelerate customer's development cycles, and provide new product value.'
