The master module’s features include the ability to integrates with RSLogix 5000 using a sample add-on instruction, which reduces its configuration time. It also has an autoscan feature, which is designed to helps reduce configuration and startup times by scanning the Profibus network and uploading the slave devices’ addresses and configuration information so the user doesn’t have to manually input the information. The module also enables asset-management software to remotely configure, commission, maintain and diagnose the fieldbus devices over their entire lifecycle.

The slave module features include an Ethernet port that allows remote configuration and maintenance. It also supports both I/O control and messaging and has explicit ladder logic CIP message blocks that provide slave status diagnostic data and acyclic messaging. It is also equipped with a diagnostic interface and rotary switches for setting of the bus address.
