Network Integration — Ethernet Hardware: The AC7195 slip ring capsule allows Ethernet transfer through a rotating interface with no degradation of Ethernet signal transfer. This is a Control Engineering 2015 Engineers’ Choice finalist.


Moog Components AC7195 Ethernet slip ringMoog's AC7195 Ethernet slip ring series has been developed to provide a reliable means of utilizing Ethernet through a rotating interface. Innovative designs meet the challenge of matching impedance, controlling crosstalk and managing losses whether using 100 BaseT or 1000 BaseT data alone or in combination with other circuits. Available in a wide range of product configurations, the AC7195 series provides an Ethernet solution for multiple combinations of data and power requirements. In addition to the AC7195, Moog offers multiple mechanical configurations to address a variety of applications requirements, from small capsules that mount like the AC7195 on the center line of rotation to 0.5- to 4-in. diameter through-bore capsules. Through-bore capsules allow mounting over a shaft or provide needed space for routing hydraulics or pneumatics through the bore.

Ethernet cables in Moog's Ethernet product family are terminated with Ethernet connectors and tested to verify performance to IEEE 802.3 requirements. Parameters such as near-end and far-end crosstalk (NEXT and FEXT) as well as insertion loss and signal noise are all verified. The various configurations provide single or multiple Ethernet cables in conjunction with power from 2- to 50-A, coax, HD video and multiple signal connections. Important considerations in configuration selection are unique system demands to ensure necessary isolation and shielding between various circuits in the system.
