Turck has incorporated its Uprox+ technology into its line of M8 miniature picoprox proximity sensors to provide compact housings with sensing distances that far exceed ferrite core sensors, especially while sensing non-ferrous metals. The sensors feature welded stainless steel housings for use in harsh duty environments. The company says Uprox+ technology provides extended sensing ranges for all metal types and features an integrated predamping protection function to reduce the metal-free mounting area required for proper operation. This allows traditionally flush mounted sensors to be recessed by half a turn for increased mechanical protection. Non-flush mounted sensors may be embedded in metal up to the outer edge of the thread on barrel style sensors and on all four sides of rectangular style sensors, causing only a slight reduction in sensing distance. The sensors incorporate 316 stainless steel housings to provide superior strength and corrosion resistance and are available with extended 2 mm sensing ranges for flush mount versions or 6 mm ranges for non-flush applications. All sensors are 3-wire dc, 10 to 30 V dc, with PNP normally open or closed, or NPN normally open versions. Numerous cable options are also available, including M8 picofast or M12 eurofast connections to match any application. All sensors are IP 68, NEMA 6p rated for use in harsh environments. —Edited by C.G. Masi , senior editor
