Helsinki, Finland Metso Minerals , the rock and mineral processing business division of Metso Corp., announced Feb. 7 that it is laying off 200 employees due to restructuring of its U.S. operations following its acquisition of Sweden-based Svedala last year. Metso Minerals employed approximately 11,700 people in 60 countries at the end of 2001.

The job cuts will occur as Metso Minerals’ manufacturing operations in Appleton and Clintonville, Wisconsin, are discontinued and moved partly to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and partly to Gastonia, North Carolina. Metso states that merging its operations will have no effect on Metso Minerals’ product offerings or customer service.

Metso Minerals’ North American sales and customer service center will be located in Milwaukee. Also, the product development, design and manufacture of its mining crushers and portable crushing units, as well as some administrative functions, will be concentrated there too. The mineral research and test laboratory will also remain in Milwaukee. The product development, design and manufacture of portable screening units, screens and feeders will be located in Gastonia.
