Industrial Ethernet: Donation helps train future engineers

Advantech’s eAutomation Group has donated three lab setups of ADAM Industrial Ethernet hardware with ADAMView software to the University of Dayton with the aim of cultivating future talent. The products to be used are the company’s ADAM-6017 analog input/digital output module, ADAM-6052 digital I/O module, ADAM-6520 Ethernet switch, ADAM-6060 digital I/O, and ADAMView data acquisition software.

The ADAM-6017 is an 8-channel analog input and 2 digital output module. The ADAM-6052 provides 16 digital I/O channels. The ADAM-6520 is a 5-port industrial 10/100Mbps Ethernet Switch. The ADAM-6060 provides 6 relay output channels and 6 digital inputs.

The University of Dayton will use this product in three classes: programmable logic controllers, controls for industrial automation, and automated manufacturing and simulation. The university is looking into building a new automation laboratory showcasing Advantech’s equipment and showing students how it can be used in factory automation applications.

The donation comes on the heels of Advantech’s announcement in December of its ADAM-5550KW, the first in a line of programmable automation controllers (PACs). The product lets users build complex systems with advanced control, communication, data logging, and signal processing capabilities, and is designed to handle distributed motion control functions with PLCopen-compliant motion control function blocks.
