CAN interface: Board allows access to two networks

CAN-PCIe/2000 from esd electronics Inc. can be specified with two CAN channels for access to separate networks running at different baud rates, one to handle high-priority tasks and the other non-critical operations.

Greenfield, MA —PCI Express CAN Interface is called the first of its kind on the market by developer esd electronics Inc . CAN-PCIe/2000 is described as a low-cost controller area network (CAN) interface board for PCI Express with one or two CAN channels. Using two CAN channels allows access to separate CAN networks that can run at different baud rates, allowing one network to handle high-priority tasks while the other manages non-critical operations.

The interface complies with ISO 11898 and CAN 2.0B. Software drivers are offered for Microsoft Windows, Linux, and QNX; drivers for other operating systems are available on request. The CAN-PCIe/2000 includes complete opto-isolation (high-speed opto-couplers plus dc/dc converters) as standard. Opto-isolation is intended to increase CAN node reliability and protect the CAN board from voltage surges and electrical interference.

The new interface comes with a free CAN monitoring and analyzing software tool and an extensive programming interface (API). More information and a data sheet may be downloaded from the esd Website .
