San Diego, CA; Paris, France— Aonix announced Aug. 4 that it has purchased the PERC platform and development tools from NewMonics (Tucson, AZ), which specializes in mission-critical network infrastructure and telematics applications. Aonix says this acquisition strategically positions it to expand its capabilities as a multi-language supplier of mission-critical embedded software solutions.
‘We welcome the opportunity to gain additional mission-critical expertise in key markets we are targeting,’ says Nicholas Hadjidakis, Aonix’s president and CEO. ‘Many of our customers who want maximum portability and access to already tested components are asking for real-time Java solutions. The acquisition of Newmonics’ PERC product line will enable our customers to quickly and safely move into real-time Java design and development.’
Aonix acquired all of the software assets and intellectual property rights associated with the PERC platform. As the first Java offering to provide real-time control, PERC strongly complements the real-time software solutions that Aonix is building. The firm plans to integrate hard-real-time support into the PERC family, enabling it to meet the needs of hard-real-time and safety-critical applications.
To ensure effective integration of NewMonics’ technology, Aonix adds that it also incorporated all of NewMonics’ employees into its organization. NewMonics’ founder, Kelvin Nilsen, was also appointed chief technology officer of Aonix.
‘With the military and aerospace communities moving towards a multiple-technologies approach, this acquisition strategically positions Aonix to more comprehensively serve those needs while expanding their reach into the broader mission- and safety-critical embedded market,’ says Nilsen. ‘Open systems comprised of multiple technologies require Aonix to deliver solutions on whatever platforms are needed for a specific application. Aonix reports that it has a long record of successfully certifying safety-critical applications based on its products and services. Aonix and NewMonics have actively participated in developing real-time Java specifications in the J-Consortium and the Open Group. These activities will continue as the acquisition positions Aonix to more comprehensively address the needs of the real-time mission-critical space.
