Paris, France —Computer simulated worlds have emerged as the next big thing in video games, from The Sims to World of Warcraft. Similar technology has been introduced for use in product lifecycle management (PLM) with 3Dlive from Dassault Systemes (DS). A lightweight 3D paradigm for on-line collaborative intelligence leveraging enterprise 3D and PLM information, 3DLive provides a single, immersive user interface where everyone across an enterprise can search, navigate, work, and collaborate on any aspect of PLM intellectual property to optimize decision making and accelerate business execution.
The interface features high-quality 3D renderings of the product and parts, easy navigation, quick searches, and dynamic chat. 3D Search combines a straightforward toolbar with rapid search capabilities that allow users to search product information across heterogeneous PLM information to find data and projects, query indexed databases, and check for dependencies and status in minutes.
3D Navigation lets users intuitively browse, zoom, select, and inspect the product definition, dynamically using 3DLive turntables, which organize PLM information and facilitate rapid, intuitive navigation throughout the product definition. 3D Navigation helps users quickly review projects, get product definition updates, and collaborate across communities in real time.
To provide a context for what users see and where they go throughout the 3D universe, 3D Compass enables users to select specific types of PLM information (authors, version, and status). The 3D Contextual Buddy List identifies authors, owners, and contributors, and directly connects users for instant collaboration in 3D, which facilitates teaming with the right people for more efficient decision-making.
Another feature, called 3D Heads-Up, enables dynamic chat, 3D image-sharing, co-navigation, and annotation. It provides rich and immersive collaboration tools that let participants see, understand, explore, and discuss PLM information.
3DLive leverages existing DS applications and data, and is downloadable online. It uses an open service-oriented architecture to increase business agility, facilitate deployment, and streamline integration. By providing a base environment for secure live applications, the program supports specialized business functions on-demand.
