ABB appoints Paliwal as president of U.S. operations

Norwalk, CT— To strengthen its focus on key North American activities and markets, ABB Group reports that executive committee member Dinesh Paliwal will take on the additional role of president of U.S.-based ABB Inc. beginning on Jan. 1, 2004. He follows Donald Aiken, who will retire at the end of January as president of ABB Inc. and head of the group’s automation activities in the U.S.

Paliwal is a member of the ABB’s executive committee and is the head of its worldwide Automation Technologies business, which employs more than 50,000 people, and posted revenues of $8.5 billion in 2003. Paliwal has more than two decades of experience in the process and utility industries, including management of ABB’s businesses serving the automotive, chemical, metals and minerals, pulp and paper, electric power, printing, and other manufacturing industries. He has worked and lived in six countries, and is a frequent speaker and consultant to commercial and governmental organizations in the U.S. and abroad.

ABB adds that it’s giving Paliwal responsibility for ABB in the U.S. because of the importance of its markets in North America, and because it sees an opportunity to extend ABB’s global leadership position in innovation technology. The group employs approximately 9,500 people in the U.S., and serves customers in the power, process, and manufacturing industries. ABB’s operations in the U.S. include development and manufacturing for technologies including control systems, robotics, drives and motors, instrumentation, low-voltage products, transformers and switchgear. Paliwal’s expanded executive responsibility is intended to more sharply position these activities among ABB’s global operations and strategy.
