New Berlin, Wis .— To establish drive system development capability closer to its customers throughout the Americas, ABB’s Drives Business Unit recently opened its new Product Development & Applications Research Center at its ABB Industrial Systems facilities here. ABB currently has four drive development centers worldwide to serve local customer needs.

“The center’s objective is to further leverage ABB’s international expertise and leadership into new drive technology and applications,” says Charles Clark, ABB Industrial Systems’ executive vp and head of ABB’s Drives & Metals Systems division.

The center’s mission will be to listen to customers, learn what problems are unique to them, identify problems behind their requests, and then deliver the right solutions, says Kari Tikkanen, director of AC drive development and head of the center. The center will also develop new products and technology to make selecting and using drives easier.
