Opto 22 explains automation simply with a basic cartoon video, “Automation 101 - What is Industrial Automation?” Adding intelligence, quality, and safety to a process is easier with automation, especially for doing things that humans cannot. Courtesy: OptOpto 22 has created a 90-second animated video called “Automation 101 – What is Industrial Automation?” The video explains industrial automation and the benefits it provides to companies and to people.

"What is industrial automation?" the video asks. "Industrial automation adds intelligence to a process."

A large portion of the video explains the industrial automation process by explaining how automation is beneficial when brewing beer. The video explains that automation can help a company maintain consistency in making the beer as well as regulating specific parts of the process like maintaining the water levels in a tank to ensure that water levels do not drop or exceed safe limits. Tools like sensors and controllers, the video says, can help ensure a smooth operation when there aren’t any people around to supervise.

The video concludes by explaining that industrial automation’s benefits extend to other facets of the production process that might be difficult or even dangerous for a human trying to go it alone.

"Automation is great when you need to do something a human can’t like lift heavy things or work in extreme temperatures or monitor a huge bank of sensors without rest," the video says.
